Evan Hilberg- Head Coach

Evan Hilberg rejoined the Marketmen in 2014 as an assistant coach and took over as head coach in 2017; he had played pitcher and infielder for the team in 2006 and 2007. He is a native of Corvallis and played football and baseball for Corvallis High School. Evan went on to play for Linfield College, from which he graduated with a degree in Exercise Science. While with the Wildcats, he earned All-Northwest Conference and All- West Region honors as a pitcher; Linfield twice advanced to the NCAA Division III World Series, placing third and fifth. Hilberg has earned two master’s degrees- one in exercise physiology and one in biostatistics in addition to finishing his PhD in 2019. He works for Cambia Health Solutions as a medical policy research analyst. Hilberg’s coaching career started in the Corvallis Parks and Recreation Department when he was a Marketmen player. Now he is grateful for the opportunity to carry on the strong Marketmen tradition.

Jim Owre- Asst. Coach

Jim Owre returned to the Corvallis staff in 2012; he had previously been an assistant coach for the Marketmen from 2000-07. His coaching career also includes stints as head coach at Crescent Valley and Taft high schools, where he had both the Raiders and Tigers in playoff contention. Owre graduated from Oregon College of Education (now Western Oregon University) in 1977 and became a high school teacher and coach. Owre began his involvement with the Marketmen when his son, Sam, had a standout career in the program from 1996-98. Owre and his wife, Dani, own the Family Sports Shop in Monmouth.

Chad Hartsell- Asst. Coach

Chad Hartsell joined the Corvallis staff in 2019. A native of Salem, Hartsell played baseball for both Sprague High and Legion Post 136 for three years. He went on to play two years at Linn-Benton Community College – winning a NWAACC championship there - and two years at Oregon Tech. Hartsell was a Legion assistant coach for the Mid-Valley Rockets / Southpaw’s from 2014 thorugh 2018. He began coaching in 2007 with the Cascade Little League, then moved to Albany in 2010 and helped a team there to

a state title. Hartsell’s son, Cooper, played for the

Marketmen in 2019.

Larry Bumpus- Asst. Coach

Larry Bumpus joined the Marketmen staff as an assistant in 2018. A native of Southern California, Bumpus was a standout football, basketball, and baseball player in high school. He went on to earn a scholarship and play football at Oregon State University. Bumpus has several years of coaching experience, including experience with legion programs in the Salem area. He is currently coaching football and baseball at Corvallis High School. He enjoys working with young men and helping them to develop into better athletes and most importantly, into better young men. Bumpus loves to spend time with his family and has the unique opportunity to work with his wife everyday.

Cooper Hartsell- Asst. Coach

After playing for the Marketmen in 2019, Cooper Hartsell becomes part of the Gerding Builders staff in 2022 alongside his father Chad. He also played Legion baseball for the Mid-Valley Southpaws of Albany. Cooper graduated from West Albany High in 2018, earning All-Mountain Valley Conference honors as an infielder. He went on to play

at Umpqua Community College.

Azel Bumpus- Asst. Coach

Azel Bumpus joined the Gerding Builders staff for the 2022 season, coaching alongside his father Larry. Bumpus played for the Marketmen in 20218, 2019 and 2021; if not for the COVID-19 pandemic wiping out the 2020 season, Bumpus would have been a rare four-year player in the program. Bumpus graduated from Corvallis High in 2020. As a junior in 2019, he was All-Mid-Willamette Conference second team as an infielder. He went on to play at Chemeketa Community College.
