Coach Jim Owre

Coach Owre dedicated more than two decades to Corvallis American Legion baseball, serving as a steadfast coach, mentor, and guiding presence for hundreds of players and fellow coaches. He held high expectations for everyone around him and had an extraordinary ability to bring out each player’s best, often before they even knew they needed it.

His gift for showing up for young men in the program left a lasting imprint on countless lives. With deep wisdom, decades of experience, sharp wit, and a warm sense of humor, he connected with players in ways that shaped them far beyond the field.

Coach Owre’s philosophy centered on playing the game the right way, honoring the values of the Marketmen program and the American Legion, and elevating the people around him. These principles were the foundation of everything he taught.

For more than twenty years, his influence helped define the Marketmen program. The stories he shared, the lessons he taught, and the impact he had on generations of players and coaches will continue to live on—woven into the fabric of the program and carried forward by all who had the privilege of learning from him.

Why Donate?

The Corvallis American Legion program has lost its ability to utilize the outfield fence to advertise program sponsors with our longstanding sign boards displaying local businesses. This decision was outside of our control and sent down from the Corvallis School District. This sponsorship revenue was the primary way in which we supported facility upgrades including scoreboards, bleachers, lights, a press box, and the concession stand at Hansen Stadium at Taylor Field, among other maintenance. Additionally, this allowed us to keep the player fee for each player/family at a very low cost for the entire summer of games and travel in accordance with the wishes of the late Gene Hansen. We do not want to have any hidden or extra costs for families participating in the Marketmen experience.
We are working to be creative in ways we can still advertise and support local businesses who support the program, but our ability to do this at the Stadium has been severely limited. We are reaching out to alumni players and families and the Marketmen community at large to continue to provide a top-notch experience to local baseball players and remove any financial barriers to participating. Please consider joining our efforts to Fill The Marketmen Cart so we can support our local ball players and continue our long tradition of excellence on the field and exciting nights at Taylor Field.
All donations are tax-deductible and you will be given a tax receipt for your records.

THANK YOU!
